It has been announced that 17-time Grammy award winning rap superstar, Kendrick Lamar, will deliver the halftime performance at Super Bowl LIX, in New Orleans. Louisiana. The big game will be held at Caesars Superdome on February 9th, 2025, with kickoff set for 6:30pm EST.

This will be Lamar’s second halftime performance following his previous star-studded appearance with Dr. Dre, Mary J Blige, 50 Cent, and Eminem. The “Not Like Us” rapper says he’s looking forward to bringing hip hop to the NFL’s 2025 Super Bowl matchup.

Roc Nation, which is owned by rap icon Jay Z, played a role in the selection of Lamar to perform at the Super Bowl. “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come,” Jay Z said in a statement.

Though many fans are looking forward to Lamar’s performance, others feel it’s a slap in the face to rap legends like Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Mystikal, Master P, and Big Tymers, who are all natives of New Orleans.. Rapper Cam Ron boldly gave his opinion over the selection, stating he loves Lamar as an artist, but hates the selection. Check out the following video and see why he feels Drake is the reason Lil Wayne is not the headlining act for Super Bowl LIX.

Master P took to social media as well to congratulate Kendrick Lamar, and express he feels Lil Wayne should have been a part of the celebration. “Salute to @kendricklamar for performing at the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX.. well deserved, he’s one of the hottest music artists in the world and has one of the biggest songs right now.

As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans I have to agree with the fans that @liltunechi#LilWayne should be a part of this celebration as well. He’s one of the greatest Hop Hop artists alive, still relevant and he’s a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here. @masterpmasterclass#Godisgood Change starts with us. @nfl@jayz@mayorcantrell.”

Master P’s post has received over seven thousand likes and over a thousand comments. Fans are split down the middle over the whole ordeal, many are agreeing with Master P, and others say the selection committee got it right by choosing Lamar to headline the half time show. Either way everyone is looking forward to the performance and you never know who may show up on stage as a special guest.
