Kendrick Lamar’s fiery pop-out performance took place at the Kia forum in Inglewood, CA, on Wednesday June 19th. The concert was announced only two weeks prior and instantly sold out. The event attracted 17,000 attendees and was streamed online by Amazon Prime Video.
The star- studded event included cameos by Dr. Dre, TY Dolla $ign, YG, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, producer Mustard, and NBA stars Russell Westbrook DeMar DeRozan, and Lebron James. Other celebrities in attendance were The Weekend, Rick Ross, and Lauren London.
The concert lasted for three hours showcasing performances by over 25 artists, with a set list of 60 songs.
The concert took place during what many are considering the height of a long-standing feud with fellow rapper Drake. The two have been trading lyrical insults over the years on various songs. The feud came to a head this year when Lamar accused Drake of using AI-generated vocals of the late 2Pac Shakur on a diss track aimed towards Lamar’s “Taylor made freestyle.” Drake. removed the track from his social media one week after posting due to Shakur’s estate threatening legal action for non-authorized use against the rapper.
The concert is being described as a celebration of unity with mentions of the late Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle. Lamar performed his certified platinum hit “Not Like Us” five times back to back during his performance. He also requested that Drake return 2 Pac’s ring that was rumored to have been purchased at an auction in 2023 for 1 million by an anonymous buyer, that later turned out to be Drake. During closing comments at the event, Lamar stated his show was not about rap beef but about bringing unity within the community.
