Mega Fight Between Jake Paul & Mike Tyson Postponed Due To Health Scare

The last time we spoke we we’re getting ready for the event of the year, but things have quickly changed.

Well, we are still getting a boxing match between the social media king Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Iron Mike Tyson, however, it won’t happen on the initial summer date of July, 20th. The fight has been rescheduled for November 15th at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas and Netflix will have a live stream of the big event.

But, why did this fight get pushed back so far? Before we get into that, let’s talk about the actual boxing match. When the fight was originally announced, we did not know if it would be an exhibition or an official fight. It was surprisingly sanctioned as an official boxing match in April by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. Back in Tyson’s heyday, he fought with 10-ounce gloves, and the fights went 12 rounds, each round 3 minutes. This fight will be 8 rounds and 2 minutes per round, with 14 once gloves. Mike Tyson’s last official fight was nearly two decades ago on June 11th, 2005.

A press conference to officially announce the fight took place on May 17th, but weeks later Tyson suffered an ulcer flare up while on a plane and had to receive medical attention immediately after landing. A representative from Tyson’s camp released a statement about the ordeal.

“Thankfully Mr. Tyson is doing great. He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him.”

This wasn’t Tyson’s first health scare in recent years. Not long ago he was spotted in a wheelchair at the airport. He revealed that he suffers from sciatica from time to time. Sciatica is a condition that causes pain along the sciatic nerve in the lower back that travels down the leg. It can also cause numbness in the lower extremities which affects mobility.

Some critics have spoke out saying Tyson is too old to fight. When Paul was asked his opinion in a recent interview with TMZ Sports he responded;

“He’s his own boss. He wants to fight me. He told my team, ‘I don’t give a s* about this. Like, tell Jake I’m still going to rip his head off and knock him the f* out. And, this just bought him more time.’ Tell Mike Tyson not to fight and to chill and see how that goes.”

Doctors have advised Tyson to refrain from intense work outs and get plenty of rest but we will see how that goes.

The Fleet Mag will keep you up to date on this showdown as information becomes available. Be sure to catch the fight November 15th, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and streaming on Netflix as well.
