Beth: The Musical Journey of a Future Headliner

She’s a singer, songwriter, producer, and actress who’s worked with some of the biggest names in the music and entertainment industry. She was a finalist on season 16 of The Voice and a vocalist on Dancing With the Stars. The Fleet Mag reporters Aminah Sillah-Baker (AKA MzMinah BrownDivah) and Steven Ragsdale (AKA Megastar), had the pleasure to sit down with the extraordinarily talented Beth. This interview was nothing short of informative and downright fun!

Detroit, Michigan native Beth, is known for her incredible vocal prowess. She has toured globally as a background singer with many recording artists including, Anita Baker, Kem, The O’Jays, and Najee. Beth spent several years learning and singing with Anita Baker. She told us it was Baker who gave her the moniker “Beth Always Sings.”

“That name was actually given to me by Anita Baker. We were in Texas, we were doing a show. I was trying to coin a name for an email, and she said ‘I know what to call you, Beth always sings because you always singing.’ And I was like, you know what, I like that, and it stuck.”

Beth expressed how grateful she is to have toured with so many amazing recording artists. After years of singing behind others, she decided to step into the spotlight as a full-fledged independent artist. This has led to opportunities for her to open for Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Peabo Bryson, Keith Washington, Chante’ Moore, and Boney James, to name a few.

Beth candidly discussed the exhilarating highs and challenging lows that came along with her transition to being an independent artist. It’s a journey that many can relate to, and her openness about the struggles and triumphs is truly inspiring.  She stated, “There are ups and downs. The highs are really high, and the lows are really low, and I think for independent artists, most of us, our biggest issue is we don’t have the financial budget. So that can be very discouraging”.

One of the standout moments from the interview was when Beth emphasized the importance of attitude in achieving success, stating, “Your attitude determines your altitude.” This gem, among many others, showcases her wisdom and motivational spirit, making it clear why she is rising to stardom. She went on to say, “I have been really blessed that even though I’m an independent artist and everybody doesn’t know who I am I have already graced some incredible stages. all over this world and this United States.”

Going deeper into her musical roots, Beth is the daughter of Motown legend Johnny Griffith from the iconic “Funk Brothers.” Growing up in a family steeped in musical history, it’s no surprise that artistic expression flows through her veins. However, her talents don’t stop at music; Beth boasts an impressive acting resume, featuring appearances in films, stage plays, and commercials, showcasing her versatility in the entertainment industry as a whole.  She’s also appeared in the movie “Sparkle” as the body double for Whitney Houston.

Beth has released two albums and numerous singles. Her latest single, “Ooooo,” is a testament to her musical prowess, illustrating the true essence and power of her voice. With melodies that resonate and lyrics that inspire, Beth’s artistry captures the attention of listeners, paving the way for her promising future. 

Beth’s vision and aspirations are leading her to great heights, and this is just the beginning of her incredible journey. She stated, “Two of the biggest things that I want to do is have my song be the lead song of a movie soundtrack and I want to headline my own tour”. She is definitely well on the way to accomplishing these things sooner than later.

Through her infectious high-spirited energy and talents, Beth has already achieved remarkable feats in her career, and she shows no signs of slowing down. Her passion for her craft and dedication to her artistry promise exciting things ahead.
