Less than 24 hours after performing at The Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association Grand Marshal’s Ball in Mobile, Alabama, Grammy nominated R&B legend Angie Stone was killed in a car accident. The accident occurred on I-65 shortly after 4:00 am near Montgomery. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter that Stone was riding in reportedly flipped several times before being struck by a semi-truck. Eight other occupants in the van were transported to a local hospital. Stone was the only fatality.
As news of Angie Stone’s passing spread around the world, many friends and fans took to social media to express their condolences, including her long-time friend, Anthony Hamilton:
“Queen! Angie. I’m devastated. Sending prayers and love to your family, children, and millions who loved you. You will forever be in our hearts. Fly high Soul Sista.”

Isadore Sims, President of the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association in Mobile, AL released a statement about Stone’s death after witnessing her last performance.
“Angie’s performance at the 2025 Grand Marshal’s Ball was nothing short of phenomenal. Her talent captivated everyone in attendance, and her presence truly elevated the event. Never could we have imagined that it would be the last time we would have the honor of witnessing her perform. The news of her passing has left us all deeply saddened, and we will always cherish the memories of her incredible talent and warm spirit.
During this time of bereavement, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with Angie’s family and loved ones. May you find comfort and strength in the loving memories you shared with her, and may her legacy continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.”

Angie Stone was heading to Atlanta for another performance when the accident occurred. An official cause of the accident has not been released. She was 63 years old.
