2025 will see the release of another SCARY MOVIE film. No, not that kind of scary movie, but the
franchise that spoofs them! The most recent SCARY MOVIE films featured no involvement from the
creators of the film series, the Wayans Brothers which include Shawn, Marlon, and the elder statesmen of
the family, Keenen Ivory Wayans.

The original film debuted in 2000 and a second one less than a year later in 2001 due to the alarming
success of the first one. The Wayans family, known for comedy spoofs with like films, “I’m Gonna Get
You Sucka!,” “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood” and the sketch series “In Living Color.” They decided to take on the popular horror and slasher movies of the mid-1990s with a humorous edge.

The original SCARY MOVIE was written by the two youngest Wayans Brothers, Marlon and Shawn, who also starred in the film under the direction of Keenen. Shawn and Marlon got their start on big brothers Keenen and Damon’s sketch series, “In Living Color.” They later created their own series, the sitcom “The Wayans Bros.”

Shawn and Marlon’s first film “Don’t Be A Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood spoof the hood movie craze of the early 90s. The brothers then decided to spoof the slasher and horror films of the day and came up with SCARY MOVIE. The movie became the highest grossing film directed by an African American until Tim Story directed “Fantastic Four” in 2005. The brothers also hosted the MTV Awards off their success, and SCARY MOVIE 2 came the following year.

The Wayans were set for the third installment until they realized they’d gotten the exact deal they came into the franchise with. Even after the success, nothing had changed. They had been replaced by another pair of brothers at that, the Zucker Brothers, known for their own brand of comedy including films like The Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane! The Naked Gun. The film series went on without the Wayans for three more installments. They were replaced with everyone from Eddie Griffin and Kevin Hart, to Anthony Anderson and Katt Williams. But, not even those headlining names could capture the magic that the Wayans Brothers created. The last installment, SCARY MOVIE 5 was released in 2013.

The Wayans went on to star in more successful films throughout the years. The youngest brother Marlon even created a somewhat similar film A HAUNTED HOUSE, that went on for two installments in 2013 and 2014.

Marlon revealed the return of the Wayans family to the Scary Movie franchise in an Instagram post.

Paramount Pictures will distribute, while MiriMax Studios will produce the film. Rick Alvarez will also write and produce with the Wayans Brothers.

A release date for the Wayans Brothers return to Scary Movie has yet to be revealed.
