Chris Brown will be the latest entertainer to be part of an investigation. A new documentary
“Chris Brown, A History of Violence,” will air on Investigation Discovery (ID), as part of the No Excuse For Abuse Campaign.

The documentary will explore Brown’s history of assault charges and previous sexual assault allegations dating back to 2009, when he was arrested for assaulting his then girlfriend, Rihanna. Since then, Brown has had several run ins with authorities and violent outburst including:

  • March 2011 – Became upset after being asked about his altercation with Rihanna during an interview with Good Morning America host Robin Roberts. Reportedly, he threw a chair in his dressing room shattering a window and left the TV studio shirtless and enraged
  • June 2012 – Was involved in a brawl with Drake and his entourage at a nightclub in New York leaving several people injured
  • Jan 2013 – According to Frank Ocean, Brown punched him in the face after he turned down his handshake. This allegedly occurred after a dispute between the two over a parking spot at a L.A. recording studio
  • July 2013 – Probation is revoked after he is accused of a hit-and-run in Los Angeles. The charges were later dropped after an agreement was reached with the accuser.
  • Oct 2013 – Arrested on felony assault charges after allegedly punching a man at a Washington D.C. hotel
  • May 2015 – Accused of assaulting a man at a basketball game in Vegas
  • July 2016 – Accused of assaulting a woman at a hotel after she tried to take a picture of him with her cell phone. Brown’s spokesperson says the assault never occurred and the woman in question was simply upset because she was kicked out of a private party that Brown was attending at the hotel.
  • August 2016 – Arrested at his home on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon

  • Feb 2017 – Court ordered to stay away from ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran after she accused him of threatening her on numerous occasions
  • April 2017 – Accused of punching a photographer
  • May 2018 – Brown and two others were accused of sexual battery, gender violence, hate violence, assault, interference with exercise of civil rights, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and more
  • Jan 2019 – Detained in Paris on suspicion of aggravated rape and a drug offense
  • June 2021 – A woman accused him of hitting her in the back of the head. The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office declined to file charges due to insufficient evidence.
  • July 2024 – Brown and his entourage were accused of severely beating four men backstage following a show

Though this list of accusations and charges may seem alarming, some of them resulted in all charges being dropped. In some instances, Brown pled guilty and accepted his punishment, including jail time and probation.

Brown was previously diagnosed with bipolar and post traumatic stress disorder. In 2013, he voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility to manage his anger.

Brown and his spokesperson have stated before they feel he is a target and he’s been accused of things he hasn’t done on numerous occasions.

In the upcoming documentary, a new accuser will speak out for the first time and tell her story. The film will also feature the view co-host Sunny Hostin as she leads discussions with several experts and advocates. The documentary will air Sunday, October 27 at 9pm EST.
