The legendary hip hop group N.W.A will receive the lifetime achievement award at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. The event will take place on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, and air on CBS at 7:00pm CST.
N.W.A consists of rappers MC Ren, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, Ice Cube, and The D.O.C. The group was formed in Compton in 1987 by the late Eazy-E. The group is being recognized for their music and contributions to the hip hop culture.
N.W.A. released their debut album “Straight Outta Compton” in 1988. The album stirred much controversy for the lyrical content which consist of profanity, references to gangs, drugs, sex, and statements pertaining to police . Despite being banned from mainstream airwaves, N.W.A was still able to achieve 3x’s platinum status.
Other recording artist that will receive the lifetime achievement award include The Clark Sisters, Gladys Knight, Laurie Anderson, Donna Summer, and Tammy Wynette.
