On this day, November 15, 2007, Jay Z took the number one spot at the top of the US Billboard Album Chart with “American Gangster”. The was Jay Z’s 10th number one album and his eight number one solo album.

“American Gangster” was released on November 6, 2007, and hit number one in less than two weeks. The album serves as a concept album inspired by the 2007 film of the same name, which depicts the life of American gangster Frank Lucas.

The album features production from a variety of producers, including Diddy, The Neptunes, and Just Blaze, among others. Some notable tracks from the album include “Roc Boys (And the Winner Is)…,” “Blue Magic,” and “I Know.”
