On this day, September 2, 1975, R&B singer Tony Thompson was born.

Tony Thompson was a key member of the R&B group Hi-Five. Hi-Five was a quintet consisting of teenagers from Waco, Texas. The group was formed in 1989 and achieved success in the 1990s. Their debut album, “Hi-Five”, produced several big hits including, “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game), “She’s Playing Hard to Get”, and “I Can’t Wait Another Minute”. Thompson was lead singer of the group and known for his smooth vocals and baby faced smile.

Hi-Five went through many challenges and tragedies as a group. In 1995, Thompson released his first solo album, “Sexsational”, which featured hit singles, “I Want a Love Like That”, Handle Our Business, and “Come Over”.

In 2007, as the group was making plans to reunite and record new music, tragedy struck again and Tony Thompson passed away, reportedly of an accidental overdose. His untimely death rocked the music industry and left fans devastated.
