Kurtis Blow is not only a rapper but a songwriter, record producer, film producer, DJ and minister. He set the foundation for the rap/hip-hop genre by becoming the first rapper to ever sign with a major label. Shortly after signing with Mercury Records, in 1980, he released his first single, “The Breaks” which was certified gold.

Kurtis Blow has worked with and produced several recording artist and groups including Full Force, Run DMC, The Fat Boys, Wyclef Jean and more. During his career, he released 10 albums and several singles including “Christmas Rappin”, “Basketball” and “If I Ruled the World.” He was also known for his distinctive fashion sense, which helped shape the visual identity of hip-hop culture.
