On this day, July 30, 2002, Cam’ron featuring Juelz Santana, “Oh Boy”, was number one on the R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart.
Cam’ron, whose real name is Cameron Ezike Giles, is a rapper, actor, and entrepreneur, born in Harlem, New York City. He was a member of the hip-hop group “Children of the Corn” during the early 1990s. However, it was his association with the Harlem-based rap group “The Diplomats” (also known as Dipset) that catapulted him to mainstream success. The Diplomats, founded by Cam’ron and Jim Jones, became a force in the rap scene during the early 2000s.
Cam’ron released his debut album, “Confessions of Fire,” in 1998, followed by “S.D.E.” (Sports, Drugs & Entertainment) in 2000. However, it was his third studio album, “Come Home with Me”, that achieved success in the hip-hop industry. The album featured hit singles like “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma,” which became anthems for the hip-hop community.
Apart from his music career, Cam’ron has ventured into acting, making appearances in films like “Paid in Full” and “Killa Season”. He’s also known for his business endeavors, including the creation of his own clothing line called “Dipset USA” and a line of signature cigars called “The Infamous Cigar.”
