On this day, July 21, 1990, En Vogue peaked at #2 on the Billboard 100 chart with “Hold On”. The song that held the top spot was “She Ain’t Worth It”, by Glenn Medeiros featuring Bobby Brown.

“En Vogue” is a R&B/Pop vocal group that gained popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The group was formed in Oakland, California, in 1989 and originally consisted of four members: Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, Maxine Jones, and Dawn Robinson. Their music blended elements of R&B, soul, pop, and dance, and they were known for their beautiful harmonies and dazzling performances.

En Vogue achieved success and became one of the best-selling female groups of all time. They released several hit singles and received awards for their vocal abilities and innovative music videos. Some of their most popular songs include:

  1. “Hold On” – Their debut single released in 1990, which quickly became a chart-topping hit.
  2. “Free Your Mind” – A powerful and socially conscious song that received widespread praise.
  3. “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” – Another chart-topping hit that showcased their vocal prowess.
  4. “Don’t Let Go (Love)” – A ballad featured on the soundtrack of the movie “Set It Off.”
  5. “Whatta Man” (with Salt-N-Pepa) – A collaboration that became one of their signature songs.

Despite lineup changes over the years, with Dawn Robinson departing the group and being replaced by Amanda Cole and later Rhona Bennett, En Vogue continued to release music and perform, maintaining their status as an iconic girl group.
